Professional Learning Community

Thank you for checking out the Create Aha! Moments Professional Learning Community page.  We begin by answering nine frequently asked questions and then provide a membership application form.  Please take advantage of the opportunity to apply for membership. 

Question 1:  What is a PLC?

In schools, a professional learning community, or PLC, is a group of educators that meets regularly, shares expertise, and works collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.  In our PLC we will focus on improving student performance by celebrating your successes and sharing ideas for creating more Aha! Moments.  All progressive-minded professionals who are committed to lifelong learning and growth, are welcome. 

Question 2:  How often will our PLC meet?

Monthly on the 3rd Thursday starting January, 2021. 

Question 3:  How long will our meetings last?

Approximately 2 hours.

Question 4:  What will I expect to gain from these sessions?

By joining our PLC you will have the opportunity to collaborate with open-minded individuals, from around the globe, who are interested in learning.  In this PLC you will gain and share insights into how to create Aha! “I got it” Moments with students, celebrate successes, brainstorm solutions, and support each other.  We will discuss what teachers can do before, during, and after instruction to ensure students achieve their learning goals.        

The information shared in our PLC will appeal to parents, coaches, corporate trainers, and learners, as well as teachers.  We intend to share insights from neuroscience and psychology that will be helpful for effective communication and coaching, especially regarding how to provide useful feedback that the coachee will find valuable. 

Question 5:  What will we do during our PLC time?

In our professional community, we will: (1) share tips for creating Aha! Moments, (2) discuss how you can help students learn more and remember longer, (3) enjoy positive interaction among teachers, colleagues, and book authors, (4) build synergy as a Think Tank, and (5) elaborate on research cited in the book Create Aha! Moments: Tips for Teachers.

In our PLC we will discuss how Aha Moments can be prepared for and produced consistently to help students learn in the classroom.

Question 6:  What are the 3 Aha! Questions? 

  1. How will you consistently create Aha! Moments in the classroom? 
  2. What will you do when a student is struggling or making a reasoning error?
  3. When students master the correct reasoning, how can we help them continue to grow? 

Question 7:  What are the 3 big ideas of our PLC?

In general, PLC’s are focused on three big ideas:  learning process, collaboration and student outcomes.  You will gain specific, practical and inspiring strategies for creating Aha! Moments with your students.
